LYRIC

The flower in the garden
Is climbing to the sun.
In a long line of circumstance
To do what must be done.
Shining for a moment—
That’s just its way—
Then the colors soften
And fade away.
Life takes hold everywhere,
In the darkness and light.
Among the twists and turns,
Some go left, some go right.
To each its own I suppose.
Whatever grows grows.
And so
It goes.

She was in the library
With a far away look;
A girl and a note pad
Surrounded by her books.
I sat across the table,
Nothing else to do
In the land of imagination
Where everything is new.
She said, “These stories are like butterflies
Pinned to the page;
They live in the possibility
Of whimsy set ablaze.
Oh I love it here.
See their wings catch the air.”
And so
It goes.

I saw him at the Laundromat
I was sorting through the past.
Starting out black and white
Blending to grey and overcast
I don’t go in there often,
Who knows why today.
Funny thing about habits,
When they start who’s to say.
He said, “These machines are like waves
Pushing at the shore,
They seem like just one thing
And nothing more.
But you can never do just one thing.
Always, always rippling.”
And so
It goes.

Now the sunshine warms my back
As I find my way through
This overgrown pathway,
Both familiar and new.
Everyone has their own story;
I guess I do too.
Maybe someday mine
Will lead to you.
Love takes hold everywhere,
In the darkness and light.
Among the twists and turns,
Sometimes left, sometimes right.
To each its own I know.
Whatever grows grows.
And so
It goes.
