LYRIC

I joined the fight for freedom
When I was just a lad
And on the streets of Derry
I grew to be a man
I did hard time
But there’s no crime
In the fight for liberty
Like many before who fought and
Swore to see their country free

Betrayed by doubts they let us out
And I carried on again
With comrades few the flag we flew
From the Foyle to the Bann
The peace has come
The struggle’s gone
They said when they captured me
But nothing has changed
Its’ still the same
Here only the wind is free

My name is Tony Taylor
But I could be any man
Anyone they feared
Anyone who dared
To take a rebel’s stand
Without charge or trial
Torn from from wife and child
Kept in this living hell
My license revoked
Interned but not broke
In this grim Maghaberry cell

Then came a soft late winter’s day
Because I’d shared the Derry air
With the voiceless and the poor
They came with guns saying not a word
As away they carried me
See nothing has changed
It’s still the same
Here only the wind is free

My name is Tony Taylor
But I could be any man
Anyone they feared
Anyone who dared
To take a rebel’s stand
Without charge or trial
Torn from wife and child
Kept in this living hell
My license revoked
Interned but not broke
In this grim Maghaberry cell

Without charge or trial torn from wife and child
I’m still in Maghaberry
For nothing has changed
It’s still the same
Here only the wind is free

For nothing has changed
It’s still the same
Here only the wind is free
